Spring Break 2010

Last week a group of us went on the most amazing Spring Break trip ever! We started in Madrid, a beautiful city that reminded me of Southern California, but with more history. This is the famous bull fighting arena.
This is Plaza Mayor, one of the main squares in Madrid. There are vendors, musicians, tons of tourists, pick-pockets, entertainers, and more...
Another view of Plaza Mayor. We spent about two hours in here, basking in the warm nice weather.
This is a famous Tapas bar called El Tigre. The food was greasy but DELICIOUS!
The girls in Sol, another main square area in Madrid. It is more modern and has awesome shops like Top Shop and Zara (which started in Spain).
The group in Plaza Mayor. We had so much fun the whole weekend!!!
Here's an old church that we went in. The architecture was amazing!
On Saturday we had a picinic lunch in a huge park. This peacock loved us (or our food...).
Welcome to my house... haha This big old palace was in the park.
That night we went out to a sangria bar before hitting up the famous Spanish clubs. They really never sleep in Spain!
This place was so cute! All they serve is sangria, and there is always a huge line to get in.
yummmmmmm
Here we are on our way home at 6 am; all we had time to do was grab our suitcases before we had to leave for the airport to make our flight to Lisbon!
Danielle took a picture of us passed out on the Metro on the way to the airport. Naps are my life here...even a 15 min nap helps when you don't sleep!
We arrived at the airport in plenty of time and so got to take another nap! I'm on the ground behind the suitcase haha...
Lisbon is a beach town and my second favorite European city after Prague.
This picture is so epic. Notice the bridge in the background; it is an exact replica of the Golden Gate Bridge because it was made by the same guy. I felt like I was home!
Our hostel in Lisbon was absolutely amazing! It felt like home, even though we slept in a room with seven bunk beds!
Nicole and I have a problem...we always take embarrassing pictures with our tongues out, so we decided to switch it up to this ridiculous pose.
Lisbon was beautiful and hilly, with cute little buildings tucked away everywhere. We wandered all over with no definite destination in mind.
Nicole and I in front our our hostel. Any time it's not raining is an excuse to wear our sunglasses.
All of us in the town square.
We decided to hike up to the castle in Lisbon. We walked through neighborhoods with nice buildings and old houses.
This is the view from the castle. Although there was a lot of construction going on, Lisbon was still soooo pretty!
You could climb anywhere on the castle haha
We are always ridiculous.
The castle.
My favorite part about Lisbon was the weather!
We went to the oldest beer hall in Lisbon to get lunch. The city is famous for its seafood, and this special of the day was a mixture of potatoes, crab, and sausage. Delicious!
Our last day in Lisbon we decided to be lazy and walk around until we found a cool place to eat.
I love my friends here because they are always down to get good food. This shrimp soup was sooo good!
The four of us loooove to eat, and so saved our money to spend at various restaurants in order to better experience the culture haha
This is another palace type thing in Lisbon.
We booked round-trip flights from Madrid for Lisbon and Marrakech because it was cheaper. On Tuesday night we flew back from Lisbon at 11 pm and out to Marrakech at 9 am. We decided to just spend the night at the airport because it was easier and cheaper!!
The boys passed out on the ground.
Here we are upon arrival in Marrakech, Morocco! I had no idea what to expect...
Our hostel was AWESOME! It was so ornate, and had multiple floors with verandas and sitting areas, as well as a roof with tables, deck chairs, and a tent with hookah.
The girls room =)
This is the roof, where we ate most of our meals. Everything in Marrakech was really cheap...we lived off of bread, cheese, olives, and produce from the markets.
They are famous for their freshly squeezed orange juice, which cost only 30 duram (about 3 euro cents!)
I didn't pack my rainbows because I didn't think Marrakech would be as hot as it was. Luckily I found these cute pink sandals!
I forget what this thing is called, but it was SO GOOD! It's basically ground beef mixed with spices, onions, olives, and garlic, cooked while you wait and stuffed into this delicious bread thing.
Meat eaters of the trip haha
Everything in Marrakech was beautiful, but it was a huge culture shock. We had to make sure we didn't dress too revealing outside (even though it was sooo hot) and even still the men were extremely rude. I was really glad we had boys with us.
This shop owner explained what all the things were in his shop. There are tons of different spices, herbs, and other natural products that they use for everything from cooking to cosmetics!
This is the central market in Marrakech. There were snake charmers and everything!
After this picture they harassed us for money, literally following us for like five minutes.
On Wednesday night the four of us who love to eat decided to go "all out" on a four course Moroccan meal at a fancy restaurant. It only cost 18 euros each! We started with a bunch of appetizer things that we ate with bread, and then each of us got a delicious meat dish. Mine is in the bottom right corner...it was citrus chicken!
For desert we had a platter of oranges and apples, as well as cakes, cookies, tea and coffee.
We're so cute haha
This is in the tent on top of our hostel that night. We're sooo not PC
OF COURSE I had to take advantage of the warm weather. I forgot how white I actually am though, especially after being in Germany for two months, and got totally sunburned!
We went back to the markets, and looked at all the counterfeit designer stuff. Fake Longchamp bags!
I ate another meat thing...
This is a Moroccan graveyard that we toured our last day. Next we went back to Madrid for the last weekend of Spring Break! I basically had to wear all my clothes at the airport because we can only bring one carry one (not even a purse!).
We had to stop at Top Shop, it was my first time! The clothes are soooo cute
I miss Sephora so much, so I went a little crazy with the glitter eyeliner... (also, notice my sunburn from Morocco)
We toured the Royal Palace in Madrid and unfortunately couldn't take pictures inside. It was absolutely stunning, with a crazy ornate, detailed interior design.

The view of Madrid from the Palace.
We were quite the tourists!
Overall I had such an amazing Spring Break. I was kind of concerned about the amount of traveling we would be doing (six flights!) but it turned out that we spent the perfect amount of time in each place. Now I'm back at school with three essays to write!
