After dancing all night on Friday, I woke up early and convinced some friends to explore the city. First we went to the Alte Nationale Museum, which Chelsea and I have to write a paper about for our Art History class. It contains artwork taken by the Germans during WWI, as well as pieces from German Romanticism. Below is a picture of Chelsea and Kevin in front of the Alte Nationale.
This is the domed ceiling inside.
I forget who painted this picture, but it was one of my favorite in the museum. It's very creepy!
This painting is by Hans Thoma, and is called Guard in Front of Love Garden.
This group of school children were so excited to learn about the paintings. They are looking at a work by Monet.
Next we went to the largest part of the Berlin wall still standing. It's called the East Side Gallery, and is the largest open air gallery in the world.
Murals by over 100 artists cover the wall as a memorial to freedom and as a homage to the people who were killed during WWII and the Cold War.
There were so many great murals, but I picked a few of my favorites to show you.
Of course we had to take a picture by the American flag.
